Why this fragrance sells
Lemon is the single most commercially reliable fragrance in the Kenyan cleaning market. It signals hygiene before a customer has used the product, it masks the faint fatty note that surfactant blends carry, and it holds up in the alkaline conditions of a detergent without turning. If you are launching one product and can only stock one fragrance, this is it.
Dosing
Dishwashing liquid and multipurpose cleaner 0.3 to 0.8%. Floor cleaner 0.5 to 1%. Laundry liquid 0.4 to 0.9%. Powder detergent 0.2 to 0.4% sprayed onto the finished blend rather than mixed in wet.
Adding fragrance without ruining the batch
Add fragrance last, once the batch is fully cooled and thickened. Heat drives off the top notes, so a fragrance added hot smells flatter and weaker than the same dose added cold. Pre-mix the oil into a small amount of surfactant or a little alcohol before adding it to the main batch, poured in neat it will float and separate.
Test before you commit
Fragrance behaves differently in different bases. The same oil at the same dose will smell stronger in an alkaline laundry liquid than in an acidic softener, and some notes discolour in the presence of bleach or high alkali. Make a one litre test batch, leave it in a warm place for two weeks, then smell it again before you scale up. Our 500g pack exists exactly so you can do this without committing to a drum.
