Why every good degreaser contains it
Surfactants lift oil by surrounding it. Butyl glycol goes further, it dissolves oil, wax, grease and old polish outright, and because it is miscible with both water and oil it also holds an otherwise unstable water-and-solvent formula together as a single clear liquid. That dual behaviour is why it appears in virtually every serious industrial degreaser, engine cleaner, floor stripper and glass cleaner concentrate.
Inclusion rates
Heavy duty degreaser concentrate 5 to 15%. Glass and window cleaner 2 to 6%, where it is the reason the surface dries streak-free. Floor wax stripper 8 to 20%. Carpet spotter 3 to 10%. Even at 2% it will noticeably improve the oil-cutting performance of a general purpose cleaner.
Handling
Clear liquid with a mild ether smell. Combustible but not highly flammable, with a flash point around 60 degrees. Work in ventilated space, use nitrile gloves, it passes through latex, and keep it off painted and rubber surfaces during decanting.

Held in Nairobi in 5 and 20 litre jerry cans and 220kg drums, with SDS and transport documentation.
