The economical grade
Flake caustic is the same 99% sodium hydroxide as pearls, priced a little lower because it is cheaper to produce. It dissolves marginally faster thanks to the larger surface area. The trade-off is dust: flakes are light, they carry on air currents, and alkaline dust in an eye is a hospital visit. For a workshop that decants a whole bag into a mixing tank in one go, flakes are the sensible economic choice.
Soap making
This is the grade most cold-process and hot-process soap makers in Kenya use. Work from a properly calculated lye table for your oil blend, allow for a five percent superfat, and never guess the ratio, under-dosed lye leaves a soft soap that never cures, over-dosed lye leaves a bar that burns skin.
Detergent use
Prepare a 20 to 30% solution in water, let it cool, then use it to neutralise sulphonic acid to pH 7 to 8. Preparing the solution the day before makes the neutralisation far easier to control because you are not fighting two heat sources at once.

Corrosive. Store sealed and dry, away from acids, aluminium and hypochlorite. Full SDS supplied with every order.
