When ordinary alkali is not enough
Sodium metasilicate delivers high alkalinity in a dry, easily handled granule, together with the emulsifying and metal-protecting behaviour of silicate. That combination is why it appears in almost every clean-in-place formulation for dairies, breweries and food plants, and in the heavy-duty degreasers used in garages and workshops.
Where it is used
CIP and bottle-washing detergent 20 to 50%. Automatic dishwash powder 15 to 40%. Industrial degreaser powder 10 to 30%. Floor stripper and wax remover 5 to 15%.
Aluminium protection
Strong alkalis normally attack aluminium. The silicate component of metasilicate deposits a protective film, which is why it is preferred over plain caustic soda anywhere aluminium fittings, pots or vehicle parts are being cleaned.
Safety
Strongly alkaline and corrosive to skin and eyes. Handle with gloves and goggles, keep the container sealed against moisture, and store apart from acids.
