Foam that survives the greasy plate
Cocamide DEA is a non-ionic amide made from coconut fatty acids. On its own it cleans very little. Added to an anionic system it stabilises the foam so it survives contact with fats and oils, which is exactly the moment a cheap dishwashing liquid visibly collapses and the customer decides it is weak.
It also thickens
CDE raises viscosity directly and improves the response of the batch to salt, so you reach your target thickness with less brine. That matters because over-salting is the usual cause of a product that separates or thins out after two weeks on a shelf.
Dose
Dishwashing liquid 2 to 4%. Shampoo and body wash 1.5 to 3%. Car shampoo 1 to 2%. Above about 5% you gain very little and start to make the product feel greasy on the hands.
Practical note
It is a pale to amber viscous liquid that thickens in a cold store. Warm the container gently and stir before dispensing so your dosing stays accurate. Held in Nairobi in 5kg, 25kg and 210kg packs.
