96% versus 90%
The difference between the two grades is active content and colour. LABSA 96 carries about six percent more surfactant per kilo and noticeably less unsulphonated free oil, so it neutralises to a paler, clearer solution. For a dishwashing liquid sold in a clear bottle, or a hand wash where the customer judges the product by eye before they judge it by performance, that difference is worth paying for.
Dosing and yield
Because the active content is higher, you generally use five to eight percent less LABSA 96 than LABSA 90 to reach the same cleaning performance, which closes part of the price gap. Neutralisation is the same process: add caustic solution slowly to the acid, stir continuously, control the exotherm, finish between pH 7 and 8.
Common applications
Clear dishwashing liquid, premium hand wash, car shampoo, laundry liquid where a bright appearance is part of the sell, and any powder blend where a darker slurry would show in the finished granule.
