What pearlizer does for a product
Pearlizer is a dispersion of ethylene glycol monostearate crystals. Stirred into a clear surfactant base it produces the silky, light-catching shimmer that shoppers read as rich and expensive. It changes nothing about how the product cleans, it changes entirely how the product sells, which for a small manufacturer competing on shelf is often the more valuable of the two.
Cold process, which matters
Classic pearlising meant melting EGMS flakes into the hot batch and cooling it on a controlled curve to grow the crystals correctly. Get the cooling wrong and you get a dull, grainy product. This concentrate is supplied pre-crystallised, so you simply stir 1.5 to 4% into the finished cool batch and the pearl appears within minutes. No heating, no cooling schedule, no failed batches.
Where it is used
Shampoo, conditioner, pearl hand wash, shower gel, pearlised dishwashing liquid and body lotion.
Notes
Add it last, after thickening and fragrance, and stir slowly, high shear will break the crystals and the pearl will disappear. Very little competition exists for this material in Kenya, and we hold it in Nairobi in 5kg, 25kg and 150kg packs.
