What SLES 70 is used for
Sodium lauryl ether sulphate at 70% active, sold in Kenya as Ungerol, and elsewhere as Texapon or SLES 2EO, is the surfactant that does most of the visible work in a liquid cleaning product. It generates the dense, stable foam customers read as “strong”, it thickens readily with common salt, and it tolerates the hard water found across much of the country. It arrives as a thick, pale, honey-like paste that needs gentle warming or slow stirring into water before the rest of the batch goes in.
Typical inclusion rates
Dishwashing liquid usually runs 8 to 15% SLES on the total batch. Liquid hand soap and shower gel sit around 10 to 14%. Car shampoo and general multipurpose cleaners are lower, often 4 to 8%, because foam has to rinse away rather than persist. Pairing SLES with cocamide DEA or CAPB raises foam quality and viscosity at a lower total surfactant load, which is usually cheaper than simply adding more SLES.
Handling and storage
Store sealed, out of direct sun, between 15 and 35 degrees. The paste stiffens when cold and thins when warm; both are normal and reversible. Add it to water, never water to it, and stir slowly to avoid whipping air into the batch, trapped air is the most common reason a finished product looks cloudy.
